A Bit of a Reality Check.

February 16, 2008 at 2:54 pm (aww, jesus, kids, orchard valley, small groups, thoughts)

100_6449.jpg

This is Amanda. She just joined my small group a few months ago.

This morning at our FUEL meeting, I got to talk with Amanda’s mom for a while and she told me that Amanda has been trying to part her hair to the side “because that’s how Bekah’s is”. She also told me that the other day they were at the store and Amanda started running around the store whipping clothes off the clothes racks and chucking them in the cart. Her bewildered mom had asked what in the world she was doing and she said she was picking out Bekah clothes.

I’ve heard things like this from a few moms, which really makes me think about how I live my life.

These 6 year old girls want to be just like me.

I never realized how much of an impact I actually had on them. They want to talk like me, dress like me, do what I do. I’d better make sure I’m living every moment and breathing every breath for Jesus Christ and setting the best example I can.

Forwards

February 15, 2008 at 7:40 pm (awkward, haha, people)

I think I am going to lead a revolt against chain letters, forwarded e-mails, and ESPECIALLY forwarded text messages.

like this

all messed up

and

they’re all

and you end up getting 8 out of order, incomprehensible text messages that are not even of any importance.

And besides, I do not need to prove my love for Jesus Christ by sending this e-mail to 25 people. I already know that He is watching…so I am going to go out there and do something that glorifies him. ((and I’m pretty sure that resending doesn’t count))

This morning at about 5:30 a.m. my phone vibrated very loudly and annoyingly against my desk telling me that I had a text message. I ignored it and tried to fall asleep.

5 minutes later…

…it buzzes again.

Then another time.

So I dragged myself out of my incredibly warm and comfy bed and flipped it open to find, not something too terribly important or anything, but a chain text saying to wear NIU colors and to resend this to everyone in your phone book or something dreadful would happen, blah blah, you will die in seven days…the whole nine yards. I deleted it and went on with my morning but as I was leaving the house I remebered. I looked down to see that I was already conveniently wearing a black Beatles shirt so I ran back upstairs threw on a red sweatshirt over it and then went on my merry way. I got to class and the girl who sent me was sitting there right behind me.

Me: Oh hey! I got your text. (proudly unzipping my coat to reveal my red shirt.)

Her: oh.

I look down and she was wearing a bright blue and grey shirt.

So much for that.

Our Mini-Adventure in the Chi.

February 10, 2008 at 5:36 pm (food, friends, fun, haha, kids, life, orchard valley, people, youth group)

So here’s a little review of what went down yesterday.

Once we got there we went to eat at Ed Debevic’s where Ben was horribly slammed by our waitress…

….her name was Ernie but we called her Bert.

Then to be funny Ben tried to get the credit card all wet and dirty before she came back…and he accidently dropped it in.

He’s just smooth like that.

After getting lost in a parking lot with no cars in it and hitting many dead ends….

…we finally made it to the bean.

We took HUNDREDS (no exaggeration) of stupid pictures of ourselves with the bean in funny positions.

But then we realized that being superheroes was much much more fun.

But being so super is easily tiring (and we’re not the kind that have super heat laser vision so it was really cold).

So the amazing 7 ran over to Caribou.

Unfortunately, poor Ron doesn’t like to run. He got stuck in the middle of the street.

Once the whole group was reunited we sat down and winded up having some very deep and meaningful philosophical and theological conversations.

Anna apparently was quite bored with us.

By the way…this is Todd. He’s a stud.

On the way back to the van we sound some awesome artwork and this humongous steel swing.

To pass the time on the way home we took billions of pictures and showed our support for TWLOHA.

And that was our insanely fun day. (as short as I could make it)

Webkins

February 3, 2008 at 5:58 pm (friends, fun, haha, kids, orchard valley, small groups)

I don’t really understand these things but apparently Hayley and I missed the memo that it was National Bring-Your-Webkins-to-Small-Group-Day, so in an effort to relate to our girls….

we turned ourselves into Webkins. Haha. Beat that.
